This magnificent large 5.2-inch Ascension Quartz crystal skull is hand-carved in Brazil from ultra-clear top quality Grade A+ Brazilian Quartz. It is so clear that you can read through it from side to side like a magnifying glass, and from top to bottom on either side of the mohawk. It is beautifully carved and smoothly polished, with a tiny notch under the right cheekbone and under the jaw. It has spectacular vivid rainbows in the teeth and jaw, and at the back. It is very unique because it has several small crystals embedded in the quartz on the left side, including a crystal point behind the left jawbone. This is truly a showpiece!

The style of haircut that we call “Mohawk” was worn by young "braves" charged with protection of the tribe. Hair was a source of pride and power, and the cutting of hair was often seen as a sign of grief or shame. Hair styles varied from tribe to tribe, and although the "Mohawk" has been associated with the Mohawk tribe of upstate New York (whose actual name was Kanien’kehá:ka), it may have actually belonged to the Pawnee of Kansas/Nebraska.

However, the Mohawk-style has been worn for hundreds of years by people around the world, from the Celts in Ireland to the Mandinke warriors of Africa. Siberian art dating from 600 BCE depicts people with spiked hair down the middle of their head. In the 5th century BC, Herodotus wrote that the Macai tribe in northern Libya also wore their hair in what could be described as a Mohawk.

The Cossacks of Ukraine in the 16th-century shaved their heads and left behind a long central strip of hair which they braided into a topknot. Known as an oseledets, this hairstyle may date back to the Middle Ages, and has been adopted as a symbol of resistance against the Russians. 

In all cultures, this hairstyle seems to be a symbol of power, independence and bravery.
